It’s A Lunar Reunion This Mid-Autumn at Ipoh Parade!
Ipoh, 20 Sept -Ipoh Parade recently kicked off its Mid-Autumn celebration with a resounding success. The highlight of the launch event featured two thrilling lion dance competitions, a lantern making contest using recycled materials, a mesmerizing LED dragon and lion dance performance, and the eagerly anticipated lantern parade. This year’s lantern parade drew an impressive crowd of around 500 participants, including families who came together to partake in the festivities. It was truly a lunar reunion at the mall.
The first traditional lion dance inter-school competition held on Saturday, September 16th invited a total of 8 dragon and lion troupes from various secondary schools in Perak to participate in the event. After a round of exciting competition, the Persatuan Tarian Naga dan Singa S.M.J.K San Min from Teluk Intan, Perak won the championship with a score of 8.31 points, winning a prize of RM2,000, a trophy, a medal for each team member and a team certificate. The Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe of Taiping Hua Lian High School, which also scored 8.31, ranked second. The third runner-up was won by the Kelab Wushu S.M.J.K Tsung Wah, Kuala Kangsar Troupe.
This was a traditional lion dance competition in which a team of two performers perform the lion dance. They choreograph their movements to the rhythms of traditional instruments, including single drums, high-sided gongs and cymbals. Each performance was based on a predetermined theme and lasted between 7 and 10 minutes. The judging was led by the chief judge, Master Hooi Kok Hong. The competition aims to promote traditional Chinese lion dance culture and lion dance sports to the youth.
Through ingenious decorations and skillful lion dance performances, the Persatuan Tarian Naga dan Singa S.M.J.K San Min Troupe vividly interpreted the many difficulties encountered by the lions to outwit the plucking of the green in the river and successfully won the championship.

Also held on the same day were the Perak Lions Clubs and Ipoh Parade Lantern Making Competition 4.0 Award Ceremony. A total of 97 members of the public participated in this eco-friendly lantern making competition. The judging session started after the contestants submitted the lanterns they made at home, by the secretary of Perak Nam Hoi Association, Mak Cheng Choong, the chairman of the president of Pertubuhan Kebudayaan & Orkestra Perak, Kok Sing Yee, and the Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad Business Development supervisor, Alan Teh. The competition aimed to promote environmental awareness while making lanterns among the public.
Recycled materials were used to make these beautiful pieces of lanterns.

The LED Dragon and Lion dance performance was specially prepared for the public and 500 participants of the Lantern Parade.
Immediately after the award ceremony, Ipoh Parade prepared a series of Chinese cultural dance and LED dragon and lion dance performances. It attracted a large number of shoppers to stop and watch. That night, Ipoh Parade also gave out 500 lanterns for the public to take their children to participate in the lantern parade.

The third high Acrobatic Lion Dance Championship, hosted by Ipoh Parade and co-organized by the Selangor High School Alumni Association Dragon and Lion Troupe and the Selangor Dragon and Lion Sports Association, falls on Sunday. This year’s competition was extremely fierce. Each team tried their best and put a lot of effort into the green picking theme, layout and performance, which was thrilling and breathtaking. Each team’s performance won continuous applause and cheers from the audience.
Lion dance troupes from as far as Johor, Kuantan and Selangor took part in the championship.
The Selangor High School Alumni Association Dragon and Lion Troupe won the championship with a 0.1 advantage. Persatuan Tarian Naga Dan Singa Xuan Long Rawang Selangor won the first runner-up with a high score of 9.27. The second runner-up was won by the Johor Pertubuhan Trian Naga Dan Singa Wen Ching Kelapa Sawit. Xuan Long Dragon And Lion Dance Rawang Selangor won the fourth place with 9.19 points. Among them, the top four winning teams all won by 0.01-0.02 advantage points.
The Selangor High School Alumni Association Dragon and Lion Troupe won the championship.
